18 hideouts of kidnappers, armed robbers demolished in Kogi

Image
Eighteen houses serving as hideouts for kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals have been demolished in Kogi, an official has said. Cmdr Mr Jerry Omodara (retired), Special Adviser to the governor on security, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lokoja that the houses were destroyed in line with the provisions of the state’s law on kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes. He said that 17 of the houses were demolished in Kogi central senatorial district while one, an estate, was demolished in Kogi East senatorial district. Omodara said that more houses were being identified, adding that any house where arms and ammunition were recovered, would be pulled down. He restated Gov. Yahaya Bello’s resolve to rid the state of criminals, and declared that there was no going back on that stance. Omodara advised criminals to steer clear of Kogi in their own interest. ( NAN)

The Kogi and Enugu Governments have inaugurated a 10-man technical committee to resolve the lingering boundary disputes between the two states. The committee, which has five members from each state, is to be co-chaired by the Surveyors General of both states – Michael Abolorin, Kogi and Ishiwu Godwin of Enugu. A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Kogi Deputy Governor, Sylvester Akor, said that the committee would look into issues in the dispute and work out some meeting points toward a final resolution. “The committee will explore areas of common agreement and present same to the National Boundary Commission (NBC),” the statement, made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lokoja, said. Melaye and His Controversial Book

Image
Melaye and His Controversial Book The Chairman Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory and senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district of Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has ones again added another feather to his cap by writing a book titled ‘Antidotes for Corruption: The Nigerian Story’. In his book, Melaye listed the names of some people he believed are corrupt. Known for not shying away from controversies, Melaye said he expected over 1000 law suits from those he listed as corrupt. He seems to have forgotten the well established principle of law; that an accused person remains innocent until his guilt has been proved and convicted by a court of law. Nevertheless, observers consider his decision to write a book on the vexed issue of corruption as a bold step and an indication that the senator despite his controversial way of life, can also engage in intellectual work...

Gov. Yahaya Bello is not Competing with Dino Malaye

From being the Chairman of the Transition Committee that saw to the smooth inauguration of Governor Bello, to alleging threat to life, a once cordial relationship between the Kogi State governor and Senator Dino Melaye has gone sour. In this interview with Vanguard, Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo threw light on the strained relationship between Governor Yahaya Bello and Senator Dino Melaye. Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo  Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that Gov. Yahaya Bello is after his life, what is your reaction to this? I also heard of the allegation and it is an embarrassment to logical reasoning.     ANS.  Governor Yahaya Bello is not competing with Senator Dino Melaye for anything. He is the Governor of the State, father of the State and the leader of the All Progressives...

Image
ONE year after assuming office as the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in this interview, vows not to allow vested interests to hamper the development of the state. Bello, who described Kogi as a sick state, also reveals what his administration is doing differently to develop it. Gov Bello insists that he inherited a sick state •N1.5 billion diverted monthly through ghost workers •Past administration had more than 400 political appointees compared to less than 60 now •Educated leaders behave like illiterates when it comes to sharing resources By Soni Daniel & Charles Kumolu HOW has it been governing Kogi in the past one year? I met a state that was hopeless and today, Kogi State is hopeful because of the things we are doing. Of course, I know there are challenges ahead but I am looking up to God and I have confidence in my people, who have supported us so far to deliver our mandate. I prefer to be seen as a silent achiever. I want our achievements to speak for m...
