The Kogi Government says it has taking steps to contain a poisonous cassava variety containing high concentration of Hydrogen Cyanide across the state. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Kehinde Oloruntoba, made the disclosure when he visited a cassava farm on Thursday at Adavi Local Government Area of the state. According Oloruntoba, He got the report from the chairman of Adavi Local Council that poisonous cassava peels killed seven goats on the spot after consumption.   “The governor immediately directed an immediate assessment of the situation and take proactive steps to identify and destroy all the poisonous cassava in farmlands to curtail its spread. “In November 2016, we lost some people to poisonous cassava flour in this same area. “The test results carried out by the state’s Ministry of Health revealed that the flour contained a high concentration of hydrogen cyanide, not compatible with the body. “That is why we are here to meet with cas...

Kogi State Screening Committee Report 2017; Lists of Cleared Kogi workers from the appeal committee. Governor Yahaya Bello on the 22nd of February 2016 set up a 29-Man Staff Verification and Screening Committee to among others, ascertain the true figure of the workforce of the State, Local Government Area, Local Government Education Authorities and Pensioners; and also make recommendations that will reposition the Public Service and Pension Administration in Kogi State. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, says his administration has completed payment of salary to 95 per cent of its workers cleared in the just concluded staff screening and verification exercise. He also announced that students in tertiary institutions will henceforth receive N10,000 as bursary as against former N3,500. “I can confirm that people are still getting payment alerts as we do our best to meet the May 31 timeline which we set for ourselves to complete all payments,” the governor said in a statement issued to mark this year’s democracy day celebration. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Tuesday received the final report of the staff screening exercise, with a vow to retrieve salaries and allowances collected over the years by workers with fake certificates. He also said that workers that gained employment into the state civil service with fake certificates would be prosecuted. The governor, however, said that workers found guilty of altering their birth dates would be pardoned. Bello, who commended the committee that carried out the exercise, said that issues relating to the 14-months verification exercise had finally been laid to rest with the submission of the report. The governor promised to implement the recommendations in the report, and described the exercise as one of the “surgical operations” his administration had to embark upon toward effective service delivery. Scores of protesters in Kabba, headquarters of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, in the early hours of Friday, massed at the party headquarters along the Aiyetoro Road, chanting anti-Senator Dino Melaye songs. The protesters had earlier gathered at the Kabba Township Stadium, from where they proceeded to the INEC office, Lokoja, to initiate the process of recalling Melaye, who represents Kogi West at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
