Scores of protesters in Kabba, headquarters of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, in the early hours of Friday, massed at the party headquarters along the Aiyetoro Road, chanting anti-Senator Dino Melaye songs. The protesters had earlier gathered at the Kabba Township Stadium, from where they proceeded to the INEC office, Lokoja, to initiate the process of recalling Melaye, who represents Kogi West at the upper chamber of the National Assembly. The Kogi government said it has completed payment of salary to 95 per cent of of its workers that were cleared in the just concluded staff screening and verification. The state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, made the assertion on Monday in Lokoja in a statement issued to mark this year’s democracy day celebration. “ I can confirm that people are still getting payment alerts as we do our best to meet the May 31 timeline which we set for ourselves to complete all payments,” the governor said. Bello said that government was deploying integrated staff and payroll automation solutions to consolidate the gains from the screening in line with the ongoing civil service and pension reforms. With the conclusion of the exercise, he assured workers and pensioners of prompt payment of salary and pensions. Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State says the state workers who have not been cleared cannot get salaries. The governor said this Thursday in Abuja at the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while fielding questions from journalists.
